Good Citizen Science
The objective of this project is to foster and preserve the integrity of large physical and virtual communities, so that these communities can properly function for the benefit of their honest, dedicated members. It identifies methods and policies aimed at controlling and curbing corruption in organizations, and proliferation of false identity accounts and spread of misinformation in social media, by enabling "good citizens" -- individuals who truly care -- to unite and take action to protect their circles from malicious behavior and influences.
This project encompasses the development of tools for unbiased aggregation of opinions and recommendations, bot activity detection, identification of questionable claims and verification of information validity in social media, as well as methods for group cohesiveness evaluation and team-building. These developments rely on the principles of crowdwork, crowdsourcing, and analysis of pairwise relationship-based, trust-based and agreement-based connections between the members of a given community or organization.
